A majority of people experience something traumatic in their lives. The ways that the brain may try to protect you from trauma can result in underlying beliefs, behaviors or thought patterns that hinder you from living an authentic life. As a trauma therapist I support clients who are dealing with PTSD, anxiety, depression, anger, relationship issues or executive dysfunction that may be related to trauma. My role is to help you understand the impact trauma may have, to help you improve the ways you can cope and through EMDR to support you to heal from trauma long term.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR therapy can be used to overcome obstacles that are holding you back from living your most authentic life.  Many people who know about EMDR know that it uses bilateral stimulation, such as self-led tapping, following an object with your eyes from side to side or wearing a headset that makes noises in one ear then the other.

  • Case Formulation: I will get a full picture of your life – history, relationships, your perspectives and what you . We will build up your coping skills. Together we will map out the beliefs (negative and positive) you want to work on, as well as the experiences that contribute to these beliefs.
  • Processing: When you feel ready we will use bilateral stimulation to reprocess experiences that you have had. It is my goal as a therapist to make sure that you stay within your window of tolerance.
  • Integration: We will incorporate what you get from processing to shift your beliefs to be healthier. This might mean positive changes in other parts of your life, which can be unintentionally destabilizing. My role is to help you approach these changes from a place of empowerment and resilience. This stage can lead to more Case Formulation or more Processing as we get more understanding.
