Affirmative Therapy: A type of psychotherapy used to validate and advocate for the needs of sexual and gender minority clients.
My passion for working with LGBTQIA+ individuals inspired me to develop an affirming therapeutic style very early in my career.
I have over 10 years of experience professionally helping people who are LGBTQIA+. As a bi/pansexual cis woman who has many close relationships with queer people, my lived experience being in this community can help to inform treatment.
I deeply enjoy helping people to feel empowered in who they are. As an LMFT I have experience supporting family members and loved ones of LGBTQIA+ individuals. In family or couple therapy my role may be to mediate conflict, work through misunderstandings, develop healthy beliefs that challenge homophobia or transphobia, and find ways to reconnect. I can support healthy conversations and identify what transitioning or exploring one’s sexual orientation might mean for the relationship.
The unfortunate reality is many LGBTQ+ individuals are estranged from their biological family. I can support you to find your inner confidence, identify other supports in your life and heal from painful emotional wounds inflicted by loved ones. The aftermath of estrangement often brings a lot of confusion and complicated grief, I can help navigate these unknown waters, establish a healthy grieving process and support the building of a life that is rich in other ways.
I work with queer people who are in therapy to work on issues with trauma, mental health or issues in romantic relationship(s). I can provide a Letter of Readiness for clients who are not seeking ongoing therapy, but simply need an additional Letter from another therapist in order to pursue medical transition. In general I can provide a Letter of Readiness within a week of out appointment and offer a discounted rate if I am not in-network with your insurance. Contact me if you are interested in this and we can get started!
